Economic Geography is a highly developed branch ofgeography, which focuses on production, distribution andconsumption activities. This text on economic geography, dividedinto three parts, takes account of recent trends and theoreticaldevelopments in the subject. Part I is introductory in nature anddeals with basic concepts of economy and economic geography. PartII deals with resources and their utilisation. In all, ten chaptersrelating to world agriculture, livestock, mineral and powerresources, industries and transportation have been included. PartIII explains the theories related to agricultural and industriallocation, spatial variations in production and transport costs,decision-making process and economic regionalisation. The book isthus a brief introduction of the major themes of economic geographyand is written in an accessible and lucid style, well supported byillustrations and tables. It is primarily designed for thepostgraduate and graduate students of geography and will also beuseful for competitive examinations as well as for the generalreaders. About the Author : H.M. Saxena, a senior geographer and a member of RajasthanCollege Education Service since 1967, served as a Lecturer, Head ofthe Postgraduate Department of Geography, Principal and finallyJoint Director, College Education, Government of Rajasthan. DrSaxena has contributed numerous papers to reputed journals. He isalso the author of many books, both in English and Hindi, notableamong them are Marketing Geography, Environmental Geography,Environmental Management, Transport Geography and Dictionary ofPhysical Geography. He has completed four major research projectssponsored by ICSSR/UGC and also served as member/convenor ofseveral academic bodies. At present, he is actively engaged inresearch and writing in the field of economic geography andenvironmental geograph.
